Version 3 of the Memento Internet Draft published

A new version of the Memento Internet Draft is published. Major changes are:

  • Added description about Mementos of HTTP responses with 3XX, 4XX and 5XX status code.
  • Clarified that a TimeGate must not use the "Memento-Datetime" header.
  • Added text stating that it is not recommended to have an Original Resource and its TimeGate coincide in Memento implementations because of caching issues that may arise.

LIBER 2011 participants hear about Memento

Herbert Van de Sompel does a keynote entitled "Towards a Machine-Actionable Scholarly Communication System" at LIBER 2011 in Barcelona, Spain. It discusses, among others, technologies such as OAI-ORE, Open Annotation, and Memento. Video recording and slides of the keynote are available.

Time Travel for the Web presented at 2011 NDIIPP meeting

Michael Nelson presents Memento's concepts for time travel on the Web at the 2011 meeting of the National Digital Information Infrastructure and Preservation Program in Washington, DC. His students also present Memento-related work, including the ArchiveFacebook FireFox add-on aimed at self-archiving personal Facebook pages.

Memento Tutorial at OAI7

Herbert Van de Sompel presents a tutorial on Memento (and Open Annotation) at the 7th Workshop for Innovations in Scholarly Communication (OAI7) in Geneva, Switzerland.

Lecture in Berlin on accessing resource versions with Memento

Invited by Professor Stefan Gradmann, Herbert Van de Sompel does a lecture at the Humboldt University (Library and Information Science Department) in Berlin, Germany, about accessing resource versions via Memento's HTTP datetime content negotiation.

Memento at the 2011 General Assembly of the International Internet Preservation Consortium

Michael Nelson and Robert Sanderson attend the 2011 General Assembly of the International Internet Preservation Consortium (IIPC) at the Koninklijke Bibliotheek in The Hague, Netherlands. They present an update on the Memento project and discuss a possible collaboration with the IIPC's Access Working Group aimed at creating an Memento TimeGate Aggregator that reaches across all Web Archives of IIPC members.

Memento at CNI Spring 2011

On April 4th 2011, Robert Sanderson presents an update about the Memento project at the Spring 2011 CNI Task Force Meeting in San Diego, CA. An abstract is available from the CNI site. There is also a video recording of the presentation, and slides.

Memento in Top 10 of Digital Preservation developments of 2010

In the January 2011 issue of the Digital Preservation Newsletter, the Library of Congress lists Memento as one of the Top 10 developments of 2010. The same issue also mentions an interview our sponsor Martha Anderson did about Memento for the Federal News Radio.
